When I disappear from the blog for awhile, you know something is going on, don’t you.
Well, yes it is. I have ‘The Roofies.’
Let me explain. When I was a kid I had chicken pox. When this happens, later in life, the virus known as herpes zoster, can flare up and cause an exceedingly painful condition called shingles. That’s what I have. Shingles.
It’s been agonizing, with my skin burning like it’s on fire, a deep aching pain in my upper right back and right arm and part of my chest and my mind in figurative shreds. I have sat and cried with the pain. I am slowly getting better but at the height of it, I was doing odd things.
I try and tell people what is wrong with me and I say things like, “I have Syphilis. No, no,wait, I mean I have shingles!”
Or, I say, “I have Sphincter. No wait, that’s not right!”
Or, I whine, ”I have The Spindles!”
People are amazed and transfixed by my revelations.
I keep thinking, ‘What is the matter with my mind?’ My brother in law, Dr. Ron, says I can’t remember the word because I am in deep denial. Maybe so. I think maybe it is the pain and maybe the anti-viral drug that has loosened up all my mental strings.
Finally, I think, ‘I have to remember the right word for this. I must, I must.’
I get a bright idea. I think of the shingles on a roof! Clever, don’t you think? I say over and over to myself, ‘Think of roof, roof, roof.’
Now I find myself announcing, “I have The Roofies!”
After about a week and a half I drag myself to the grocery store. I grab a cart and meander slowly up and down the isles collecting things. 30 minutes later, an older lady grabs my basket, shakes it then leans into and starts digging through my groceries. I am a bit amazed.
The woman says, “Someone stole my basket! I’ve looked in every basket in this damn store and YOU are the one who stole my basket!”
My head bobbles on the stalk of my neck as I lean forward and look into the basket. Umm. I do see a few things that I didn’t put there. Oh my gosh. It’s not my basket.
The woman is trying to be pleasant but she is filled with righteous anger and yellow pissiness. I figure she has probably been searching stranger’s baskets for at least 20 minutes.
I say, “I’m sorry. I’m sorry.”
I almost say, “I’m sorry. I’m sorry. Please forgive me, I have syphilis.” I bet ya’ she would have run off if I had said that and left me with the basket!
But, I don’t say it and the woman makes me pull all my groceries out of the cart and I have to pile them high up in my arms where they slip and slide. There is a mighty weight of them weighing on my painful arm.
I sneak off to search for my basket and indeed, I too must traverse almost every isle before I find it. It sits alone looking embarrassed for me. Thank goodness no one has run off with it.
I belong at home until this pimpled, burning weirdness passes and I can than go out in public where I won’t embarrass myself by stealing things or telling people I have syphilis.
(Please, my friends, I beg you, don’t tell me any horrid shingles stories. People feel it’s their duty to tell these to me and it makes me crazy. Never tell a sick person bad news! My sister in law tells me that people actually say things to her and my brother Art who has had the acute leukemia, things like ‘Oh, my aunt had that and she died!’ ………..Remember it’s a far better and happier job to uplift people than to slam them down. Always scatter Good Wishes wherever you go.)

Oh man, I had no idea you were ill! I’m sure it really is the meds making you loopy, too; drugs do such weird things to all of us. You’ll get over this very soon, and you’ll look back on it as a very interesting experience, and think of all the stories you’ll have to tell! It’ll be great to have you back on the radio more frequently, too. Keep us updated, and please feel better soon! I know you will.

I love you and your hilarity, you really get it. You are truly enjoying your life, as God intended. Life is rich with experiences. Your blogs are so refreshingly fresh and real heartfelt honesty … a rarity today. God Bless you for that. I may not have known much about the real me until late in life but one thing I always knew early-on was my honesty and that I openly shared my the heart. And life really is very funny, if you choose to laugh instead of getting upset over things. It’s all about ones perspective and once you get that life becomes amazing and magical. You and yours, get that!
Anyhow, I’m making this longer than it needs to be but your news about moving to ContactTalkRadio.com is FANTASTIC and an answer to my prayer! Just had to tell you – when I got to the end of your “ROOFIES” story and read that and exclaimed out loud WOW! Oh my GOD!
You see, I’ve only recently, within the last month or so, discovered this spot online and in what seems to be a roundabout way.
You’ve been a real blessing in my life journey and thank you. And HayHouse has too. But, since I have a dial-up connection at home, it’s difficult to listen but for some strange reason your new location is very easy to listen to. To use a driving analogy, On Hay House Radio it’s like driving down a bumpy rut-filled path but, on Contact Talk Radio it’s like driving on smooth freshly paved asphalt. You stuttered there but now your voice will be like milk n’ honey. Plus, it would cut off inadvertently. This is all God’s doing but I believe I’ve sent the Intention into the universe. Really cool, yippee cool because now I’m so looking forward to hearing you in your new spot. It’ll be like liquid gold to my ears. Hallelujah!
Speaking of God and all things religious, would you be kind enough to clear things up for me? You see, I’m a 46 year old peri-menopausal female who is now actively growing my spiritual life, learning as much as I can about the bible and anything to help me heal my life, etc.
There seems to be somewhat of a divide between my church’s belief systems and those of HayHouseRadio and the teachings of Sages, people like Deepak Chopra and Dr. Wayne Dyer and Eckhart Tolle. I need to make peace with this because I’m sensing it to be a problem with my church. Up ’til now I’ve just avoided mixing the two subjects when in the company of my church people.
I believe in both and that there is no separation between the two but it just seems that my church has such a narrow (and sadly incomplete) view of life using only bible teachings to gain understanding of God’s will for our lives. Please help if you can. It just seems to me that there are alot of people at my church suffering so visibly and needlessly … there’s a huge gap in knowledge and enlightenment. In fact, I get the impression that they can’t even handle the term, ‘enlightenment.’ They don’t believe in psychic’s, mediums, clairvoyant’s, etc. It’s confusing but yet I’ve seen how they really are one in the same with biblical principle’s.
Sorry, if this wasn’t easy to understand, but if you do … please advise.

I just had to respond when I read your blog. I am so sorry to hear you have had shingles which my grandmother, father, and mother have all experienced. Stress oriented they say, but who knows for sure what sets them off. I’m glad you’ve been given something to heal. I’ve heard from some friends that Reiki and acupuncture can be helpful in the healing process. I’m sending you healing thought too! Never tell a sick person bad news! AMEN to that. I’ve had that done to me by certain people in my family. Nothing like bad news to make you feel sicker. Hope you feel better Venus. All things shall pass. Look forward to hearing you more frequently on air. Lots of love.
About shingles–My sympathies! I had shingles too, about 20 years ago–I was about 34 at the time, in a not-so-great marriage, with 2 kids under 3, and in the process of moving to another state and buying a business. As best as I can remember, it pretty much had to run it’s course. About the time I was at my wit’s end and asked the doctor for something for the pain, they went.
The only helpful hint I can remember is to wear something that covers the area smoothly and firmly to protect it from being touched , which seemed to excite the nerve endings. I had shingles around my rib cage, and I hit on wearing men’s undershirts or t-shirts that were stretchy enough to fit close without wrinkles under my tops, and that seemed to cut down on the irritation.

Hi, this is Venus. I’m responding to Comment #10, Susan’s comment about her friends dissatisfaction with religion and why do I think this is.
When The High Beings gave me so much information awhile back, they made life very simple.
I had called to The Universe many times, after studying many religions, and I had said, “It has to be more simple than this! Lot’s of religions and ways of thought have so many good things but then they throw in these odious clinkers that just sound ridiculous to me and I know they can’t be right! It causes me to toss out the entire religion.”
While giving me information, The Beings sometimes gave bible quotes, I think because I grew up Christian. Then, they would take the quote and change it just a tiny, tiny bit. A word put in, or a word changed, let’s say. And you know what? The quote then made total sense! I got it! I realized how through the centuries, the bible has been messed with, either with intent, or because that’s what happens over time.
Once, when the Beings were commenting to me about someone I know and their problem, They went into great depth with layers and layers of meaning. I said, “You never talked to me that way!”
The Beings said, “We gave you the Dick and Jane version of life.”
(For those of you too young to know, many of us learned how to read with the Dick and Jane books. “See baby. Oh. See baby. See baby and Dick play. Oh see Dick and Baby.”)
I think more and more people have become restless with religion. We are tired of the shoulds and should nots and the dusty weight of tyrannical power and the idea of a great father meting out punishment.

I am truly sorry about the shingles. I looked up online to see if acupuncture could help this in any way. I looked up acupuncture and shingles. This was one of the sites that came up http://www.acupuncture-services.com/health-az/shingles/. There were others but I will let you do your own research. Anything that works right? It looks very promising.
As for you moving. Ever since Hayhouse (as much as I love them and your daughter) started charging $48 a yr to listen, I haven’t. It’s not a protest or anything, it’s economic and about time. I would listen to the archives at my leisure because I wasn’t home to listen to the original broadcast. But what we got for free is now another expense when the economy is suffering. I get that they have expenses, I truly do. But those shows are basically there to sell products. The info is awesome but the goal is commerce. Isn’t selling books enough? I noticed Carol Rittberger is moving as well. Will we see more soon leaving the nest? Sorry for Hayhouse, glad for us.

I, myself, got a case of the roofies at 40, also stressed in a bad marriage with 2 kids. Welcome to 40! Doc got rid of them quickly, though, yay.
